Ranked: Most Popular Plastic Surgeries For Women & Men

Plastic surgery used to be only for the wealthy and was usually kept a secret. When celebrities went under the knife, they’d call “vacation” and emerge a few months later looking refreshed. These days, though, plastic (or cosmetic) surgery is much more in the open for both men and women. Here are the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the U.S. for women and men.
Women
1. Laser Bra Lift
This differs from a traditional boob job in that it doesn’t involve a scalpel. Instead, the procedure is a laser-assisted breast reduction that works to improve elasticity and smoothness. No skin is removed, it’s just tightened. Downtime here really means downtime! Patients will need to recover at home for about two weeks.
2. Botox
Botox is still the granddaddy of revitalization procedures, and its popularity hasn’t waned over the years. It’s still employed to ease lines in the forehead and around the mouth. Botox can also treat migraines, excessive sweating and act as a mini-facelift for certain areas of the face.
3. Labiaplasty
This procedure works on two levels: it reshapes the labia for comfort and for aesthetics. Excess skin can cause irritation and sometimes emotional trauma as well. Downtime can last a few days and complete healing takes up to six months.
4. Eye Fillers
Instead of opting for the more invasive blepharoplasty (eye lift) procedure with weeks of recovery time, eye fillers are used to plump up the eyelids to restore age-related volume loss. Downtime is a few days, and any bruising can be concealed with makeup.
5. Thread Lift
A thread lift consists of absorbable sutures inserted into the middle and lower part of the face to tighten and lift sagging skin and reduce volume loss. Once the threads are placed, they even stimulate the body to build collagen. The threads actually have tiny umbrella-like attachments that “snag” tissue to lift and tighten the skin from inside. They cause micro “injuries” and inflammation, both of which stimulate collagen growth.
Men
1. Eyelid Rejuvenation
In this procedure, the surgeon makes incisions on your upper eyelid and at the lower eyelash line and removes excess skin and fat. Recovery takes a few weeks.
2. Neck Lift
Gobble gobble! A neck lift will rid you of a double chin or a baggy neckline and help to restore your jawline. There are two types of neck lifts: The first (a traditional lift) involves an incision by the sideburns that travels behind the ear and ends at the back of the head. The limited lift involves shorter or smaller incisions for patients who don’t need as much tissue removed. Recovery can take up to a month.
3. Nose Job
Guys who’ve broken their noses, have deviated septums or want their crooked schnozzes to look like Robert Redford’s can opt for a simple nose job. There are no external scars from this procedure, and post-op swelling usually disappears in a few weeks.
4. Chin Augmentation
As with a nose job, chin augmentation leaves no visible scarring. They involve tissue manipulation and the insertion of a chin implant. Swelling subsides in about a week, and the implant heals in about four months. For men cursed with double chins, Kybella is a non-invasive injection process that kills fat cells and is an alternative to traditional mentoplasty.
5. Liposuction
Liposuction is not for weight loss, but rather for body sculpting. Fat is literally sucked out of your body with a hollow metal tube through several small incisions in the area. Patients will have to wear compression garments post-procedure and drains are kept in place to rid the body of extra fluid. Downtime is at least two weeks.
Whatever methods you choose to rejuvenate yourself, always remember that you are unique and shouldn’t try to copy someone else’s look or try to look like a celebrity. Do adequate research and make sure your providers are board-certified. Check out their galleries of before-and-after photos before you make a commitment.
