The Shocking Reason Why Hard Boiled Eggs Can Help You Lose Weight
Have you tried many different diets over the years? If so, you’ve probably had your fair share of hard-boiled eggs. And you may have noticed something about these eggs: they don’t have a lot of fans!
Many “healthy foods” have very vocal fans. Chances are you have a friend that won’t stop raving about their favorite salad recipe or maybe the avocado toast they love to eat every day. But nobody sings the praises of the humble hard-boiled egg.
Why is that? TikTok star @lauramahachek recently released a hilarious video about the real reason hard-boiled eggs help you lose weight. What did she say, though, and should you keep or ditch the eggs on your next diet? Keep reading to find out!
Diet tips from TikTok
If you’re new to TikTok, or never use the platform, the idea of getting dieting advice from there may seem a bit crazy. However, this is a trend that has been growing in popularity for many years.
One reason for this is that TikTok videos are free and you have immediate access to them. Why buy somebody’s expensive new book about a trendy diet when you can get the straight scoop from someone who already tried it?
Another reason is that, quite frankly, you can see the results in these videos. When an obviously very fit person offers health advice, it makes us likelier to listen.
Finally, the nature of TikTok means that, even when you search for something specific, you never know what kind of video you’ll end up with. For example, people expecting typical diet advice from @lauramahachek ended up uncontrollably laughing at what she had to say!
Meet the viral star and her hilarious words of wisdom
If you don’t already know her, Laura Mahachek (@lauramahachek) is a TikTok user with almost 13,000 followers. She posts videos focusing on topics such as fashion, fitness, and food. When it comes to food videos, she has several where she describes trying to get into eating hard-boiled eggs as a way of eating healthier.
Apparently, she got a bit frustrated by this particular dietary experiment. In her viral video, she declared that they help with weight loss because after eating them, “you are literally nauseous for the entire day.”
Obviously, there are actual health benefits to eating hard-boiled eggs, and we’re going to touch on them soon. But few people can deny that these eggs are unpleasant to eat, and her joke about how bad they taste ended up striking a chord with many of her followers!
Her fans chime in
As reported by CalorieBee, @lauramahachek is not alone in her hatred for the taste of hard-boiled eggs. And some of her fans wasted no time expressing their agreement!
For example, @zzaynah_m said that simply “watching this alone made me nauseous.” And @KellyPatrick335 talked a bit about her own disgust: “It’s a guarantee I will be so turned off from eating for at least 5 hours lol.”
Some of her followers claim that the haters are simply allergic to eggs, but that’s up for debate. And at least one follower admitted that, despite the bad taste, the eggs helped her lose weight. According to @J.G, they “lost 10kg with egg diet but never doing that again.”
Why, though, are these eggs a staple of so many diets? Let’s take a closer look!
Hardboiled eggs: a diet staple
All joking aside, hard-boiled eggs are a great way to help you lose weight. One reason for this is that eggs are high in protein. Such foods take longer to digest, leaving you feeling fuller for longer periods of time and less likely to reach for a snack.
Hard-boiled eggs are also good for your metabolism. This can help you burn fat, especially when the eggs are part of a special diet or if you have recently begun working out.
On top of all this, eating these eggs can help you lose less muscle mass even as they help you burn more fat. And that’s a powerful combo when you’re trying to look and feel your best!
The infamous hardboiled egg diet
One of the primary reasons people eat hard-boiled eggs to lose weight is because of the boiled egg diet. This is a diet in which eggs are the primary component of your breakfast, lunch, and dinner. You can add things to it (like fruit during breakfast and low-carb veggies for lunch and dinner), but it’s pretty much all eggs, all the time.
Some celebs have done versions of this diet, including Nicole Kidman, who stuck to eggs before starring in Cold Mountain. And plenty of people, including countless fitness gurus on TikTok, swear by this diet.
While hard-boiled eggs do have the unique benefits we described above, the magic of this diet begins and ends with restricting your calories. And it’s possible to lose weight by restricting calories in other ways (say, intermittent fasting) if you don’t want to feel nauseous for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!
