Why Putting Salt In Your Shampoo Is a Shower Game-Changer

Look, we get it: salt is normally the kind of thing you’d be sprinkling on your food rather than putting into your shampoo. But when it comes to a certain kind of salt, putting some of it in your shampoo is the shower time game-changer you’ve been waiting for.

The kind of salt we’re talking about is sea salt. This particular type of salt has a number of awesome health benefits when you consume it, but here’s a fun surprise: it can be just as healthy for your hair when you add it to your shampoo. Don’t believe it? Keep reading to discover all the ways that shampoo enhanced with sea salt can supercharge your beauty routine!

No more oily hair

There are plenty of reasons we hop in the shower each day, including the need to feel refreshed (and maybe sing a few songs where nobody can hear us). But for us, one of the main reasons to get that water running each morning is to make sure that our hair doesn’t look and feel too oily when we go out to greet the world.

Unfortunately, even the best shampoos can sometimes leave your hair with more oil than you want. The solution? Try adding two to three tablespoons of sea salt to your shampoo before you use it again. After you get out of the shower, you may be tempted to keep sea salt near the rest of your beauty supplies because your hair will finally (for the first time in a long time) be free of unwanted oil!

Grow your hair surprisingly long

Looking to grow your hair out? Whether you’re trying to beat the cold or just make a major fashion statement, long hair always gets the job done. Unfortunately, it’s a long job, and it can often take months or even years to get your hair to the desired length.

And you guessed it: sea salt can help you grow your hair longer and more luxurious in a very short span of time, but putting the sea salt in your shampoo won’t do the trick. Instead, you need to wash your hair like you normally do, but you follow it up by massaging sea salt into your wet scalp for 10 to 15 minutes before washing it off. If you do this at least twice a week for the next two months, you may be amazed by how long your hair gets!

Treat dandruff the easy way

What’s more annoying than dealing with dandruff? Simple: buying expensive dandruff treatments and still having to deal with unwanted flakes. Fortunately, sea salt is so effective at tackling dandruff that you might be able to put away those overpriced dandruff treatments once and for all.

All you have to do is part your hair and sprinkle between one and two teaspoons of sea salt on your scalp. Massage the salt into your scalp for 10 minutes and then wash it off. Don’t forget to closely monitor yourself in the mirror…it won’t be long before those annoying flakes are a thing of the past!

The best face mask for your needs

A good shower alone isn’t always enough to leave us feeling hydrated (as much as we may wish otherwise). Sometimes, it takes a good face mask to lock in the moisture and, as an added bonus, help make our faces less oily. But it can be frustrating to keep buying overpriced face masks and then getting results that aren’t nearly as impressive as what was advertised.

The solution to this is, of course, to make our own masks, but how effective those masks are usually comes down to what you put in them. That’s why we started making face masks with a combination of four tablespoons of honey and two tablespoons of sea salt. Pop it on your face and let it sit for at least 10 minutes before washing, and brace yourself: this homemade wash is going to blow you away with how good it is!

The softest body scrub

Like face masks, body scrubs are often most effective when you make your own. And like face masks, the ones we make for ourselves usually end up being pretty disappointing. That all changed, though, when we started making scrubs with sea salt.

To try it yourself, create a scrub by combining a quarter cup of coconut oil with a cup of sea salt. Mix it up and store it and you’ll have an effective and affordable solution for whenever you want to scrub your body until your skin is almost impossibly soft.
